This is a powerful and traditional instrument of punishment. The Lewis and Clark Expedition carried [and used] something very similar to punish lax or disobedient underlings. A customer wanted "bootlaces on a stick" but we went them one better: we took 3/16 thick "English Bridle Leather", [heavy with oils and waxes,] cut it to 1/4" wide tails and grafted them to a turned wood handle with a TurksHead Knot. Up to four feet overall, [ tress to handle ratio is 2.4: 1], this is an impressive instrument for advanced players and period reenactors.
