NEED TO MOVE THIS PICTURE TO THE OTHER CANADIAN PRISON Strap

This is a serious piece with real weight behind it. -- Starting around 1900, straps like this replaced "cats" in the Canadian Federal and Provincial Prisons and continued in use for more than 70 years. This is a heavy 1/4" thick "Sole Bend Leather " instrument of punishment . The blade is perforated , which [ theoretically ] reduces air resistance and increases the severity of the strike.

The dimensions we use for the Prison strap ( 3" wide x 29" long x 1/4" thick with 3/8" diameter holes) were taken from a photograph of the original object in the hand of a Warder.

The size and thickness are consistent with the goal of intimidating violent felons in adult prisons ... men who thought that bare-knuckle boxing was a friendly athletic competition .... and with the descriptions of the damage with only five or ten strokes. This estimation fits the descriptions of the Canadian Prison Strap provided by prisoners.
Naturally, in consensual play, a "Punisher" might not use quite the full force that the Senior Warders of a more brutal age would have employed.

However ... it is difficult to ignore corpun.com's documentation. While prison officials may have minimized the size of the Canadian Prison Strap to mollify anti-corporal punishment reformers, it is equally likely that prisoners would have exaggerated the brutality of their punishment.

If you would prefer a downsized version of the Prison Strap, we have added the Probation Strap. It is the same width as its bigger brother but a significant six inches shorter overall. Those dimensions make it more suited to smaller play spaces while maintaining its serious whuppin' gear reputation. If you like we can omit the "perforations."
