Most people buy toys one panicked purchase at a time and end up with four things that do roughly the same job. A deliberately built collection covers different kinds of stimulation rather than different price points, and it costs less than the accidental version.
The principle
Cover mechanisms, not categories. There are only a handful of genuinely different sensations available: pinpoint vibration, broad vibration, air pulse suction, internal pressure, fullness, and temperature. Owning three toys that all do pinpoint vibration is a collection of one thing.
Build outward from what you know you like, adding a mechanism you do not yet have rather than a better version of what you own.
The build, in order
Stage one: about fifty dollars
A bullet and a bottle of lube. Pinpoint vibration plus the thing that makes everything else work. Our under fifty guide makes this case in detail, and the first toy guide covers choosing.
Stage two: add a second mechanism
Whichever you do not have. If the bullet works, add air pulse suction, which is genuinely different rather than more. If pinpoint does nothing for you, add broad power with a wand. Around fifty dollars either way.
Stage three: internal
A g-spot toy or a modest dildo. This is where glass or steel becomes interesting, because rigidity and temperature are two mechanisms at once for around seventy dollars.
Stage four: the care layer
A toy cleaner and proper storage. Twelve dollars that decides whether stages one through three last five years or one. Our cleaner comparison and storage guide cover it.
Stage five: specialise
Only now does a premium toy make sense, because you know which mechanism you want it to deliver. Our luxury guide covers where the money genuinely goes.

A Complete Starter Collection
SpicerackSelects
FFIX bullet for pinpoint, inBloom Rosales for air pulse, Icicles No. 87 for rigid internal and temperature, Sliquid H2O for everything, Wicked Cleene so it all lasts, and Perfect Fit Cruiser if a partner is involved. Six items, five genuinely different mechanisms, and around two hundred dollars spread across months rather than spent in one anxious evening.
What not to buy
- Multi-item kits. Ten cheap things is worse than one good thing.
- A second toy that does what your first does. The most common mistake.
- Anything expensive before you know what you like.
- Porous materials, unless you accept a short lifespan. See our materials guide.
FAQ
How long should this take? Months, deliberately. Each purchase should follow from what the last one taught you.
What if I only want one thing? A bullet and lube. Genuinely covers more ground than any single expensive toy.
Couples version? Add a vibrating ring at stage two rather than a second solo toy.
Is discreet shipping standard? Always. Plain box, nothing on the label.
