Hands-free is an underrated category because it solves a problem nobody articulates: your hands get tired, your wrists cramp, and the position you want is often the position you cannot hold. Mounts, pillows and suction bases fix that for considerably less money than a machine, and they work with toys you already own.
The approaches
- Suction cup bases are built into the toy. Stick it to a smooth surface and the surface becomes the anchor. Free, in the sense that it costs nothing extra on a toy that has one.
- Mounts and pads are separate objects a suction cup toy attaches to, giving you a stable base on carpet, bedding, or anywhere a bare suction cup will not stick.
- Position pillows and wedges hold your body rather than the toy, which solves the other half of the problem.
- Straps and harnesses hold a toy against furniture or a leg.
- Wearables stay in place with no hands and no hardware at all.
Suction cups, and why yours does not stick
This is the most common frustration in the category and it is almost always the surface rather than the cup:
- The surface must be genuinely smooth and non porous. Tile, glass, a mirror, a sealed painted wall, a bath. Not wood grain, not textured paint, not anything with a seam.
- Both surfaces must be clean and dry. Lube on the cup is the single most common cause of failure, and it gets there by accident constantly.
- Press hard and hold. Push the air out, then hold for several seconds. Placing it gently does not create a seal.
- Test with a firm pull before committing. Every time. A cup that lets go mid-session is at best disappointing.
- Cold surfaces hold better than warm ones. Genuinely.

Safety and practicality
- Never mount above hard flooring where a fall would be a problem. Bath mats exist for a reason.
- Never mount at a height you cannot get down from comfortably. Getting into a position is easier than getting out of one.
- Check the seal before every use, not just the first time.
- Keep lube off the cup. Apply lube to the toy after mounting, not before.

Worth saying explicitly, as with swings: hands-free gear is genuinely useful for people with limited grip strength, joint pain, fatigue conditions, or limited range of motion.
