- Firmness you choose. Most makers offer soft, medium and firm, sometimes with a dual density option. Mass market gives you one firmness and no say.

Choosing firmness, which matters more than size
This is the specification people ignore and then regret:
Soft squashes readily, forgiving on girth, and can feel insubstantial at larger sizes. Good for texture-focused pieces and for anyone size-curious.
Medium is the default and suits most people for most purposes.
Firm holds shape entirely and transmits every detail of the texture. Considerably more demanding at the same nominal size, and the right choice if pressure is what you want.
A firm toy feels substantially bigger than a soft toy of identical dimensions. If you are ordering something ambitious, order it soft.
Buying handmade: what to expect
- Made to order takes time. Two to six weeks is normal. These are poured for you, not pulled from a shelf.
- Colours vary. Hand poured means every piece differs slightly. That is the point rather than a defect.
- Read the dimensions, all of them. Insertable length, maximum diameter, and diameter at the base. Fantasy sculpts have irregular geometry and the maximum diameter is often not where you assume.
- Ask the maker. These are small studios and they answer questions. Nobody at a mass manufacturer will tell you how a specific piece compares to another.
- Check for a flared base if anal use is on the table. Not every fantasy sculpt has one.
Care
Platinum silicone, so soap and water or boiling, and water based lube only. Silicone lube will degrade these permanently, which on a hand poured piece is a genuine loss. Is the silicone body safe? Reputable makers use platinum cure silicone and say so. Ask if a listing does not specify, and take a non answer as an answer.
Are these bigger than normal toys? Some are considerably. Many are ordinary sizes with unusual sculpting. Read the numbers rather than the photographs.
Why the price? Hand poured, made to order, original sculpts, small studios. You are paying for craft rather than scale.
