Start with a frame, not a character
The mistake is trying to act. Acting is hard, most people are bad at it, and being bad at it in front of a partner is exactly the thing preventing you from trying.
A frame is different. It is a single change to the situation rather than a character to play: meeting as strangers, one person in charge, one person not allowed to move, one person having to stay silent. No dialogue required, no accent, no costume.
Frames that need nothing

- Not allowed to touch. One person’s hands are off limits. Restraints optional, agreement sufficient.
- Silent. No talking at all. Changes everything about how you communicate.
- In charge and not. The lightest possible power exchange, which is where most kink actually starts.

Adding props
Props do the work that acting would otherwise have to. A blindfold creates the frame instantly. Restraints make "cannot move" literal rather than agreed. Lingerie changes how someone feels rather than how they look.
