Prostate toys look broadly similar and behave very differently, and the difference is entirely in the curve and the material. Neither is a preference thing. They are mechanical properties that determine whether the toy reaches the right place with the right amount of pressure.
The three variables
Curve angle. The prostate sits about two inches in, toward the front of the body. A straight toy pushes past it. What you want is a pronounced curve that redirects pressure forward. Too shallow and it misses; too aggressive and it becomes uncomfortable to insert.
Head shape. A bulbous head concentrates pressure on a small area, which is what the prostate responds to. A tapered head is easier to insert but spreads pressure and does less.
Firmness. This is the one people underestimate. Soft silicone absorbs the pressure you are trying to apply. Steel transmits all of it. That is why a motorless steel toy frequently outperforms an expensive vibrating silicone one for this specifically.

Vibrating or not? Plenty of people prefer motorless for prostate work because pressure matters more than vibration. Vibration is a bonus, not the mechanism.
Steel or silicone first? Silicone for a first toy, since it is more forgiving and cheaper. Steel once you know you want more pressure.
